VIDEOS
Career Development
This video takes you through creating a career plan, which will provide clarity on where you want to be and what is most important to you in your job. This will help you highlight any skill development needs and also differentiate between job options so that you choose the one that best fits both your values and your criteria.

ON THE JOB ACTIONS

Process
If you are doing your own career plan or helping someone else read and/or watch 'How can I progress? - Creating an effective Career Plan'. Follow the advice; you may move several times through the steps as more information becomes available to you.

Information
Encourage the sharing of job profiles around the organisation so that individuals can see what skills are required in other departments.

Action
Know the ambitions of your team members without forcing any of them to have a career plan. Assess the potential of each person and identify opportunities you have within and outside your department that can move the person towards their ambitions or potential. Help them create appropriate plans using the 'Career Decision Grid Template'.

Contacts
Develop your peer network to ensure an exchange of information between teams. Look for ways to collaborate and encourage your team to look outside their immediate environment.

Systems
Identify ‘typical’ career development moves within the organisation; introduce focused programmes that plan for the future; highlight potential candidates and support them through a programme of development towards the new role.
